Magic Mirror Studio photo booth set up at The White Orchid venue in Miami

On the first Friday of October we loaded the Magic Mirror Studio into The White Orchid, a 13,000-square-foot event venue in Miami's Redland, for a quinceañera. We have set that booth up in backyards, in hotel ballrooms and under park pavilions. This one was different, and it is worth writing down why — both for anyone shopping for a venue in south Miami-Dade and for anyone trying to decide whether a mirror booth is worth the line item.

Short version: the room did half the work for us. What follows is the honest vendor's view of the space, the numbers the booth actually produced that night, and what we would tell you to plan if you are booking something similar.

The venue, from a vendor's side of the room

The White Orchid opened its doors to events in 2023, built from the ground up by Lucy and Luis as an event space rather than converted from something else. That shows the moment you arrive with equipment on a dolly.

The facts, from their own site:

  • Size: roughly 13,000 sq ft, indoor hall plus garden grounds
  • Capacity: around 300 guests
  • Where: Miami's Redland, about fifteen minutes from the rest of Miami
  • Getting-ready space: two rooms on the mezzanine, one with vanities and a half bath
  • Catering: air-conditioned indoor prep area connected to the ballroom, dedicated catering entrance, private outdoor cooking area
  • Also included: built-in bar, full climate control, power and sound built in, guest parking with overflow
  • Vendors: a separate vendor entrance with its own parking and loading access

That last line is the one that matters to people like us, and it is rarer than it sounds. A separate load-in meant we could bring the mirror, the printer stand and the prop table in through the side and have everything set up in the morning, long before the first guest arrived. Plenty of beautiful venues in Miami make you walk your gear through the front door forty minutes before the first toast.

Two more things we noticed and that you will not read on a brochure. First, the hall is tall and the walls are genuinely white — no beige, no wood panelling, no pattern. For anything that involves a camera, that is free money: skin tones come out clean and the uplighting the DJ throws on the walls shows up in every photo. Second, the venue's own policy is to work with outside vendors rather than lock you into a preferred list. They describe it as a "path to yes." In practice it meant we were asked for our license and insurance and a realistic setup window, and then left alone to do our job. That is exactly the right amount of involvement.

For a quinceañera, a wedding, a corporate dinner — anything where the photographs are going to outlive the night — this is a room worth touring. You will find it at 19200 SW 177th Ave, Miami, and their events team answers at events@thewhiteorchidfl.com and +1 305-360-5961.

What we actually set up

The Magic Mirror Studio is a 46-inch full-length interactive mirror with a DSLR behind the glass, a ring light on top, a prop table and a dye-sublimation printer that hands you a 2x6 strip or a 4x6 photo — on a layout we design to your taste — about fifteen seconds after the last pose. An attendant stays with it the whole time.

The part guests remember, though, is not the hardware. It is that the mirror knows whose party it is. We design a welcome screen for every event — the name, the date, the colours, a QR code — and it is the first thing anyone sees when they walk up.

The same design carries onto the printed strip, so the thing guests take home matches the invitations and the decor instead of looking like a generic photo booth output with a logo stamped in the corner.

The numbers from that night

We like publishing these because most photo booth pages talk in adjectives.

  • 93 separate sessions — meaning 93 times a group walked up, posed and waited for a print
  • around 180 photos captured
  • 168 printed strips handed out
  • All of it in just under three hours, with no queue longer than a couple of minutes

We can also deliver everything as a private online album for the family within 72 hours — an easy add-on if you want the digital files on top of the prints.

The host messaged us the morning after. The line that stuck with us was that the birthday girl loved it — which, at a quinceañera, is the only review that counts.

What to plan if you are booking a mirror booth

A few things we would tell a friend:

Give it room, and keep it near power. A mirror booth is a lit object that pulls a crowd, so it needs space for a group of four to stand back. At The White Orchid we set it in a roomy corner near an outlet — comfortable for guests and an easy power run — and it stayed busy all night.

Open it once the formalities are done. At this quinceañera we started the booth right after the portraits and the opening dance — guests were settling in, still dressed up and not yet tired, and the first strips circulating around the tables advertised it better than any sign.

Decide early between prints and digital. The Magic Mirror Digital sends photos by text, email or QR and skips the printer. It is the right call for a cocktail crowd or a corporate activation. For a quinceañera or a wedding, prints win — people pin them to a fridge for years.

Send us the venue name when you ask for a quote. Load-in access, ceiling height and where the power runs change how long setup takes, and we would rather know before the day.

Questions we get asked

How much space does the mirror need? Roughly an eight-by-eight-foot footprint: the mirror, the prop and printer table, and room for a group of four to stand back. A standard outlet nearby is all the power it needs.

How long does setup take? We arrive well before guests do and need about 45 minutes. At a venue with a dedicated vendor entrance, like this one, it goes faster.

Can you match my colours and theme? Yes. The welcome screen and the print layout are designed for your event and sent to you to approve before the date. There is no extra charge for it.

Do guests get digital copies too? With the Studio you get unlimited prints on the night, and we can add a private online album delivered within 72 hours. With the Digital model, sharing is instant by text, email or QR.

Do you travel outside Miami-Dade? Yes, we cover Miami-Dade and Broward. Tell us the venue and we will confirm.

Is an attendant included? Always. Someone from our team stays with the booth, keeps the props tidy, reloads paper and helps the guests who are not sure what to do with a touchscreen.
